How to Hang Things on Stainless Steel Refrigerators
If your refrigerator looks anything like mine it is covered in artwork, notes, and magnets from about every place you have gone to on vacation. With stainless steel refrigerators, it is impossible to hang magnets on them due to their low nickel content. How do you hang things on your stainless steel refrigerator?
To hang pictures or objects on your stainless steel refrigerator you will need to use putty, double-sided tape, hooks, suction cups, or some other method since the magnets will not stick to them. You can also buy or make a DIY magnetic board for attaching magnets.
Below we will look at the pros and cons of how to attach objects to your stainless steel refrigerator.
If you are trying to hang lightweight pictures or even magnets on your fridge you can use a mounting putty. Just a small piece on each corner of the picture or drawing will hold it to your fridge without causing any damage. It can easily be removed and reused if you want to change out the artwork or remove it completely.
With putty, you will still be able to use all the magnets you have collected from your trips. You can take a small amount of putty and apply that to the back of the magnet and press it onto your refrigerator. You can even press a piece of paper between the magnet and putty, pressing it down to hold the paper on your fridge.
If you are hanging something heavier you may need to use some removable hooks. Some hooks may use suction or some kind of fastening system like double-sided tape. They can hold much more weight than the putty but will not be reusable and require clean-up to remove the double-sided tape from your refrigerator when you want to remove the hook.
Suction cups are another alternative to putty when you need to hold a heavier object. They are removable and can be easily re-positioned, but will not be able to carry the weight of a similar size hook mounted with double-sided tape. You will need to clean the surface of your refrigerator before attaching the suction cups to ensure they can get the best grip and remain in place.
If you are trying to mount a heavier object and can not use a hook, you can opt to just use the double-sided tape without the hook to attach the picture directly to your refrigerator. It does not require any additional steps but will be a permanent installation that can not be moved once attached.
Double-sided tape will also leave a residue on your fridge and be impossible to remove from the picture or artwork you are attempting to hang up.
Clings for a Stainless Steel Refrigerator
You can also use stainless steel refrigerator clings. They have a stick side to hold your pictures or other objects, and a cling side that will stick to the refrigerator. They can be moved and reused without leaving a residue or causing damage to the picture or paper.
The clings can be a bit on the pricey side but they are a good choice for lighter objects that you will want to move in the future.
If you still have the desire of displaying magnets or wish to still be able to have the versatility of magnets you can use a magnet board. Fridge Boards are designed to attach to a stainless steel fridge with suction cups and will allow you to hang stuff or write directly on them.
You can also make a magnetic board to attach to your refrigerator. The easiest way to do this is to find the size and style of frame that will work for your decor and cut a piece of sheet metal to fit inside of it.
